Smooth jazz with an edge. That’s what The Grooveside is known for in Chicago, where they perform weekly at the Sopranos Restaurant. They have also performed at venues such as the Four Seasons Hotel (Chicago, Ill.), Club LaSalle (South Bend, Ind.), Club Soda (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Hammond Yacht Club (Hammond, Ind.), Blueberry Festival (Plymouth, Ind.), and Jazz on the Terrace (Mishawaka, Ind.). The Grooveside was founded by saxophonist Kris Brownlee. A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., Kris has performed with internationally acclaimed trombonist and director of the BBC Big Band, Jiggs Whigham, as well as with blues legend Willie Kent, former Duke Ellington saxophonist Stephen Foster, nationally acclaimed keyboardist Vince Willis, and Indianapolis' top jazz artists Cathy Morris and Mary Moss. He has performed at Indianapolis’ Jazz Kitchen, Round Barn Winery (Baroda, Mich.), Gaslight Grille (Chicago, Ill.), and the Elkhart Jazz Festival. Kris is a graduate of Manchester College in North Manchester, Ind., where he studied saxophone under Robert Jones and received a degree in music performance and psychology. Kris counts Boney James as his biggest musical influence. |
